London might not be known for its brilliant weather, but when the sun does make an appearance you'll be glad you booked this elegant Kennington townhouse with its peaceful private garden. If you're not in a rush to hit the tourist spots, we suggest getting set up on the patio with a good book or a good friend to natter with. And there are plenty of nooks inside to continue activities of that ilk. In colder months, the cheerful decor, period features and fireplaces make staying in an attractive proposal, especially when there's a bottle of red and a bubble bath on the cards. This side of the river is well-served by trendy bars, pubs and restaurants and you're well-positioned for laidback South Bank strolls, street food and plenty of photos by the Thames. If it's lovely leafage you're after, the nearby Kennington Park makes for an elegant picnic spot.

It's famously home to the major cricket ground The Oval, but we're more interested in its Georgian architecture (check out the charming Cleaver Square, where you'll find locals playing boules and a cosy pub) and proximity to the cultural delights of the nearby South Bank.
