Bright garden flowers and curling vines extend a cheerful welcome to this delightful seventeenth-century Tuscan villa. Set in beautiful woodland but near to the walled town of Lucca, this lovingly restored home has an abundance of elegance and grace. Living areas retain much of their old-world charm with whitewashed walls, old beams and shuttered windows, while bedrooms are large and cool with terracotta floors and pristine bathrooms. One even has a roll-top tub in which you can soak while gazing out at the tree-tops and magnificent hill views. While there is much to enjoy inside, the fragrant garden (over 100 acres of grounds) is the real show-stopper. There's a fountain trickling water, vineyards, olive groves and masses of rosemary and oleander. Be peaceful with a good book under the poolside pergola or pick your own herbs and vegetables and add them to a lunch enjoyed in the shade. And when the sun dips and a lavender-scented breeze wafts across the lawn, stroll to the courtyard and dine al fresco by candlelight. But the absolute surprise in the grounds is that this place has its own chapel, ideal if you're celebrating something special.

About Lucca

Lucca is one of Italy’s best-kept secrets. Surrounded by fortified walls, its core is a warren of pretty piazzas, traditional Tuscan trattorias, and beautifully preserved churches. Most of the action happens in Piazza dell'Anfiteatro, a vast central square lined with alfresco restaurants and Renaissance-era architecture. There’s a buzzy nightlife scene centred around cool enotecas and craft beer bars. On Via Fillungo, you’ll find some of Lucca’s finest boutiques, with high-end...
