Housed in a converted Victorian school, this trendy apartment brings new meaning to scholastic style. With its exposed brick walls and huge arched windows, there’s a definite air of loft-chic elegance in the living room, paired with contemporary furnishings and retro finishes to create a laid-back space made for relaxation. We love the characterful touches that make this too-cool-for-school home feel just that, from the plethora of houseplants to the shelves of books and board games and the record player (ready to get soirees off on the right beat). Upstairs on the mezzanine level, the atmosphere is an A+ too, with a beautiful open kitchen that gets an abundance of sunlight and a chic desk space that will make working from home a treat. This is also where you’ll find the inviting and pared-back bedroom – but before you turn in for the night, we think the communal roof terrace is the one to cut class for. Soak up some sun on the hammock, fire up the barbecue for an alfresco feast and take in the views of the Olympic Park and London’s skyline from this coveted spot. While you could spend all day inside your plush pad, venture out to explore your surroundings. Victoria Park is a three-minute walk away, Regent’s Canal is a one-minute stroll and Shoreditch High Street is a fifteen-minute bus journey from your door.

Home truths

Unfortunately, this home isn't suitable for children under ten years old due to the mezzanine level

As you'll have neighbours here, guests are asked to keep noise levels to a minimum after 10 pm

The roof terrace is shared with the other residents

This home is laid out across two floors with stairs to access the mezzanine level, so it may not be suitable for those with limited mobility

There is room for one car in the building's driveway that guests will need to reserve it ahead of time – we recommend making use of London's excellent public transport instead, as Bethnal Green station is a thirteen-minute walk away

About Mile End

Popular with people who commute to work in the City of London, Mile End is a neighbourhood experiencing increasing interest. Steeped in history, the area features a mix of architecture, ranging from eighteenth-century terraced houses to converted warehouses and post-war tower blocks. As this is a residential area in East London, it's best if you don't mind the peace and quiet. Though as you're on the central line, you can be in Oxford Circus in less than twenty minutes, which is pretty ideal if you're not too fussed about being in the heart of the action.
