Fans of minimalism might want to sit this one out. Anyone who doesn't mind a spot of eccentricity, however, will love this West London home. Nearly every available bit of space on the walls — and even the ceiling in some cases — is covered with framed artwork, shelves full of books and various souvenirs collected from all around the world. The host, Kim, has an eye for design and it avoids feeling like a hoarder's dwelling thanks to a sense of cohesion in the curation. Her actual day job is gardening and you can see her skills in the home's outside space, which is a flourishing pocket of mature greenery offering a private place to sit out and feel at peace. If you want somewhere to stretch your legs, Ravenscourt Park can be reached in less than five minutes on foot, while the pubs and restaurants of Hammersmith Broadway take just under a quarter of an hour.

Hammersmith might feel slightly hectic in the area immediately surrounding the station, but fear not: attractive riverside walks, tranquil parks and village-like enclaves with great gastropubs are never more than a few minutes walk away. You'll be sharing the pavements and parks for the most part with young professionals and families.
