Away from the swarming tourists in the Gothic Quarter, experience a more authentic side to the city at this sophisticated apartment in Sant Andreu. On this vibrant main road, just six minutes from the Fabra i Puig metro, you’re not only spoilt for choice of boutiques, bars, cafés, but even local attractions. Eleven minutes from home, the 13th-century Roman church (Sant Pacià) has a mosaic floor designed by Gaudí himself – something you aren’t likely to find in the guide books. And in contrast to such historic surroundings, your flat is wonderfully modern and stylish. While understated, there are some decorative touches that might catch your eye – we love the ornately carved wooden headboards in the bedroom. With minimalist furnishings and white walls throughout, every space feels bright, fresh, and airy. Its large windows open up to the leafy streets of the neighbourhood, with balconettes that you can perch over with your morning espresso as you plan the day. Why not hop in a taxi and head to Barceloneta Beach for the afternoon? You can be at the sandy shores in just twenty minutes, with an ice cold beer in hand.

About El Born

El Born is the ‘it’ neighbourhood of Barcelona. It’s the type of place that will serve you Japanese fusion before traditional tapas and showcase one-of-a-kind boutiques rather than chains or traditional designer fashion. It’s a sanctuary for trendsetters who want to see a different face of Barcelona, and much less crowded than its neighbouring Gothic Quarter. For the culturally curious, there’s also a Picasso Museum and the Santa Maria del...
