Overlooking the River Derwent and Ayton Castle, this cottage nestled outside Scarborough is an idyllic country retreat. Best suited to a couple or a small family, this home is packed with original features. Deep-set Yorkshire sash windows make the most of the rural views – especially the window seat in the living area – while wooden beams and exposed stonework add to the rustic charm. And there's plenty of local history in the furniture, which was created by Yorkshire craftsman Robert 'Mousey' Thompson – all his pieces feature a carved mouse, so see if you can spot them. When you're not rustling up a meal in the well-equipped kitchen or snuggling up by the gas fire in the cosy sitting room, chances are you'll be relaxing outside in the secluded garden. It's as pretty as a postcard, the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine by the summerhouse as the evening sun fades, admiring the Forge Valley landscape that surrounds you. There's a pub, two excellent chip shops and a store in town, but for more eateries, nightlife options and sandy beaches, make the fifteen-minute drive to Scarborough.

About Scarborough

Scarborough’s natural spa waters and beach-side location have been drawing in tourists since the 18th century. Indeed, it claims to be Britain’s first seaside resort, and few things have changed since the pier and Victorian spa first opened. You’ll still find a bustling hive of retro amusement arcades, fish and chip shops and ice cream parlours serving knickerbocker glories on the South Bay promenade, where a cliffside tramway still ferries...
