With many apartments in the middle of cities, it can often be a trade-off between proximity and pleasantness. However, this home in the Quintana neighbourhood of Madrid strikes the perfect balance between the two. The design is simple but no less attractive for it — wooden floors run throughout and internal windows help keep the light flowing about. The mix of minimalist prints, house plants and washed-out furniture feel en vogue, too. When it comes to location, there are both things to see and do in the immediate vicinity — Parque El Calero can be reached in a minutes' walk — but it's just as easy to head further in the centre for the sights. It takes around twenty minutes on public transit to reach Gran Vía and Puerta de Alcalá, for example.
