We're going to go out on a limb and say that there can't be many homes with views of both an outdoor swimming pool and tennis courts, but this handsome four-storey Victorian townhouse is among this exclusive group. You can watch people going about their daily exercise — as well as the rest of London Fields — from one of the two terraces. Back inside, the design is minimalist in an old-school sense. High-quality pieces, such as the tan leather sofas arranged around a wood burner stove, an Aga in the kitchen and a couple of rolltop bathtubs, are allowed to stand out against the simple but ever-effective backdrop of rich brown floorboards and cleansingly white walls. As you explore, you'll find a surprise attached to the family bathroom in the shape of a sauna, so you can start the day as the Scandinavians do or use it to recover from a spell on one of the aforementioned sports facilities. Alternatively, you can grab brunch at Broadway Market, ten minutes' walk away.

Local guide
About London Fields
Less raucous than neighbouring Dalston and less family-oriented than Stoke Newington, if this corner of Hackney has a defining characteristic it’s the streetlife. Maybe it's the influence of the area’s large and ever-growing Italian community — with tables and chairs lining the Broadway Market thoroughfare, cocktails and cabaret seating outside railway arches and picnickers in the park in all weathers. The park is also home to the London Fields Lido - London's only 50-metre heated outdoor pool, open whatever the weather. Dive in and join the hardy regulars who swim all year round!
