While this home is up a fair share of stairs to the third floor, the views all the way out to the Tagus are definitely worth it. So is the bright sunlight that filters through the living room windows, illuminating the gorgeous hardwood floors and plant collection. The space has an airy, carefree spirit to it – with jungle prints on the walls, a yellow chair for cosying up with a book and a matching throw blanket on the sumptuous grey sofa. Fix up breakfast in the green-tiled kitchen and enjoy it at the wooden dining table before setting off for the day. When you return home in the evenings, the minimalist bedrooms are inviting and promise restorative rest. You’ll be located in the neighbourhood of Santos, one of the city’s oldest areas with wonderfully preserved centuries-old churches and mansions-turned-embassies. Walk ten minutes to Santos Square – behind it you’ll find the picturesque streets of Madragoa filled with good restaurants. You’ll also be just two minutes on foot from the Ancient Art Museum and just eight minutes away from the banks of the Tagus River. Meanwhile, the nearest bus stop is just across the street.

Modern restaurants have been carefully installed in rustic, worn buildings – the blend of old and new here is oh-so-charming. The...
