In the Moorish Quarter of central Lisbon, just a seven-minute walk from the Praça Dom Pedro, this apartment sits on the first floor of a striking, bright-yellow block. While it’s only a ten-minute walk to main attractions like the heights of the gothic Santa Justa lift, we think that the home itself is certainly something to marvel at. The charming front entranceway has an art deco feel, with a stained glass door, tiled floor, and rich wooden staircase leading up to the flat. Inside, the array of colours and patterns is vibrant and welcoming. While modern furniture and shades of blue fabric are dominant, but there are plenty of nods to the Moorish history of the local area. We love the hammered metal coffee table, tiled walls, and the ceramic ornaments placed delicately throughout. In each sumptuous bedroom, you have original French windows and a private balconette. There’s nothing better than sipping an espresso here in the morning as you perch over the railing to see the city below. Unless of course, you swap the coffee for a chilled glass of vinho verde by night.

About Baixa

Lisbon’s most central area, Baixa is brimming with distinctively Portuguese charm and history. With the city’s traditional ‘calçada portuguesa’ – the intricately patterned cobblestone that makes up most pedestrian pavements – underfoot, walk through colourful streets flanked by grand Neoclassical buildings. In contrast to the narrow lanes of Chiado and Alfama, the avenues here are wide and somewhat uniform, forming a grid-like network filled with restaurants, bars and shops. Praça...
