Situated two kilometres north of Póvoa de Varzim, this apartment is the most wonderful spot for witnessing the many moods of the northern stretch of Portugal’s coastline. From impossibly blue skies that coalesce with the azure Atlantic, to thick mists descending on stormy waves, your couch has unobstructed front row seats. Rooms are pared-back to not detract for a second from the incredible vistas, yet there’s an air of homely familiarity thanks to the neutral colour scheme and pine furnishings. Roll out of bed and onto the balcony for deep breaths of fresh sea air, before putting together a Portuguese breakfast platter in the tidy kitchenette. Then, slip on your flip flops and skip the mere fifty metres to the golden sands of Praia do Fragosinho. When sunbathing becomes thirsty work, take the ten-minute stroll south along the promenade to beachfront bars, eventually arriving in Póvoa where low-key restaurants serve up the catch of the day and traditional petiscos.
