What better way to experience Whitby than from a steampunk-esque apartment in the heart of town. At the end of the narrow, cobbled street you’ll find the 199 steps up to Whitby Abbey – up here, with the haunting ruins overlooking the headland, see where Bram Stoker got his inspiration from. Set above the owner’s gentleman’s store and barbershop, the apartment itself has been renovated from a 400-year-old building. You can still see the bones of the old building in exposed stonework and ancient timber beams. The living room is a moody shade of midnight with a plush velvet armchair and botanical prints adding a splash of colour. Each piece of furniture – the solid wood dining table, the apothecary coffee table, the writing bureau – feels as though it’s been carefully considered. We particularly love the roll-top bath, perfect for a post-beach soak, and the welcome hamper that awaits in the stylish kitchen.

About Whitby

Famously the setting of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, there’s something hauntingly beautiful about Whitby. The ruins of Whitby Abbey, set atop a windy hill overlooking the town, are just like a scene from a gothic novel. When the sun sets, ghost tours amble through the cobbled streets, revealing the town’s dramatic history. By day it’s all idyllic fishing village vibes, with a hint of Victorian holidays.
