If you're looking for the authentic New Orleans experience, you won't go far wrong with this handsome timber-panelled house in the Tremé neighbourhood. With dark wood flooring and walls painted in soothing neutrals, the design embraces certain aspects of minimalism, but it's livened up by eclectic additions, such as the zebra-print rug, the gold feature walls and the trumpet hung above the bed — fitting for a part of the city often called the birthplace of jazz. Outside, there's a garden with some seating as well as a covered porch that runs around the front of the property. The Lafitte Greenway can be reached in four minutes on foot and if you follow it down for twenty minutes, you'll reach Congo Square and Louis Armstrong Park. In the other direction, City Park and the New Orleans Museum of Art can be reached in half an hour on the tram.
