This cute little stone cottage is the best of countryside and sea. It’s set in acres of sprawling estate where you can walk to a fine-dining restaurant up at the hotel and explore woodland walks and spot wildlife by day. A fifteen-minute walk sees you at Sandsend Beach where you can clamber over rockpools finding fossils and paddle in the shallows. Following this sandy stretch (tide permitting) will have you in the delightful holiday town of Whitby in around forty minutes on foot. Cute as a button inside and out, you’ll find a cosy, open-plan living area to relax in after days exploring on foot. A central island in the country-style kitchen provides plenty of prep space, so keen chefs can really flex their muscles. Trees surrounding the spot for a bit of privacy have the added bonus of keeping things blissfully quiet so you can drift off easily in the double bed. Our favourite spot has to be the seating area just outside, shaded by towering evergreen trees. There’s a barbecue out here too if the weather is fine.

When the sun sets, ghost tours amble through the cobbled streets, revealing the town’s dramatic history. By day it’s all idyllic fishing village vibes, with a hint of Victorian holidays.
