The striking Old Town of Gallipoli is a truly special Puglian peninsula. Linked to the mainland by a 16th-century bridge, crossing over into this historical wonder feels like stepping back in time. Just a four-minute stroll from the Spiaggia della Purità, you can spend sunny afternoons daydreaming on the sand before heading back to this traditional apartment. As it’s at the heart of the historic town centre, you’ll be wandering around baroque churches and castles with ease. But for the 21st century, a luxurious penthouse lifestyle is on offer. Let’s start at the top – by which we mean the roof terrace. You’ll be spending a lot of time up here admiring sweeping views of the city and ocean as you sip negronis. Lie back on the sun lounger while someone else fires up the barbecue – freshly grilled fish accompanied by local bread and olive oil will be a fabulous start to your Puglian adventure. When you eventually make it indoors, you’ll find high, vaulted ceilings and an understated colour palette, making the home feel calm and airy. On a rare chilly evening, light up the fire in the lounge and snuggle up with a glass of red.

The Basilica di Santa Croce is probably the finest example of Lecce’s architecture gone wild, and sipping a double espresso in the Piazza del Duomo is one of the best ways to...
