The Cotswolds village of Weston Subedge was recorded in the Domesday Book, which means that this late-nineteenth-century cottage — originally built as a reading room — is a relative spring chicken. There are a few indicators as to this home's age, such as the wooden beams and lead windows, but otherwise, it's thoroughly modern thanks to the exposed floorboards, white walls and slick bathrooms. Out the back door, there's a wraparound garden with plant beds and a patio with seating for an alfresco barbecued dinner. The nearby Dover's Hill takes half an hour to climb on foot and brings you onto the Cotswold Way walking route. The town of Chipping Campden takes five minutes to reach in the car and has a selection of restaurants and gastropubs in which to refuel after a long day rambling.
