In pretty Avon, not far from the Eagle River, this comfortable home is set in a superb complex with all sorts of amenities. It makes the best of both worlds with epic mountain views that seem to go on forever, plus shops and restaurants practically on its doorstep. As soon as you step inside, it feels warm and welcoming, with a gas fireplace for toasty winter evenings and a balcony – accessed from both the living room and the master bedroom. We love the vaulted ceilings and the window wall, where it's hard to take your eyes off the view (you can even see Vail’s famous Back Bowls from here). Cook up a meal in the sociable kitchen, eat at the dining table with seating for four or set yourself up for some home working at the desk. With two bedrooms and two bathrooms, there's plenty of space for a small group of friends or a family. It's a fifteen-minute drive to Vail for some incredible skiing or head to the Beaver Creek Resort in just five – there are even bus stops to both resorts just a short walk from the building. When you get home, pop to the building's communal spa for a relaxing sauna before walking to one of the excellent eateries nearby. And why not finish the evening off with a glass of wine on the balcony? The sunsets from here are to die for.

About Vail

The Rocky Mountains provide some of the best skiing opportunities not just in North America, but in the world, and nowhere is that more obvious than Colorado. And in the summer, the hiking trails can provide just as much activity. Vail is a real hotspot for this outdoor action, with vast mountain slopes and countless non-skiing options. The town itself, modelled after alpine villages in Switzerland and Germany, is known for its lively apres-ski scene. The surrounding towns and villages don’t have the same reputation for being celebrity destinations, but they offer quieter slopes and equally charming main streets.
