The tiny, medieval hamlet of Lari rises up out of the Tuscan countryside. This traditional villa puts Lari’s handful of family-run restaurants on your doorstep, and the supermarkets and amenities of Casciana Terme are six kilometres away. Pisa is an easy day trip, a forty-minute drive away. Surrounded by manicured grounds where cypress trees stand sentinel, this place is designed for days outdoors. Slip into the pristine swimming pool in the lawn, or fire up the stone barbecue and antique wood oven for a feast in the fresh air. A fringe of deep green trees keeps things blissfully private. Inside, it’s just like a typically Tucan farmhouse – wooden ceilings, terracotta tiles underfoot and archways opening up the vast living area. Lipstick-red sofas are clustered together to create myriad seating spaces for the group to spread out, and the ones set around the old stone fireplace are ideal on chilly evenings. A long, antique dining table feels as though it could host a full banquet and the kitchen is a professional affair in chrome and steel.

About Livorno

Home to white-sand beaches and impossibly clear waters, it’s not difficult to see why so many travellers head straight to the islands of Livorno.
