While Crete is well known for its ancient artefacts and archaeology, there are some altogether more modern flourishes on this magnificent island. Just over 20 km from the Venetian fortress of Chania, this 21st-century villa sets the bar for modern-day Cretan architecture and design. Wander from the shores of Kera Beach (700 metres away), and you’ll arrive at the bright, white exterior of your coastal palace. The sharp, angular lines of the villa meet rolling hills and cascading waves surrounding it on every side. Ascending the sloped path to the home, the first thing you’ll notice is your vast outdoor space. With a heated pool, sun loungers, and multiple terraces, you can sip cocktails in the sun or shade. And we love the use of natural elements, like the twigs creating shady awnings, in stark contrast to interiors that ooze urban delights. The living space offers a stylish palette of charcoal, black, and white – making the azure views from the enormous glass doors truly stand out. Abstract wall decor and a trio of cat statues bring a quirky edge to the space, while the bedrooms match the understated, industrial vibe. But wherever you go, you can’t escape that fantastic sea view.
