This newly converted stable offers a calm and comfortable base to return to after exploring the Lake District's endless walking trails and glorious rolling countryside. Located within the small holding of Crooked Birch, Subberthwaite, the only bustle you'll hear come morning is the sound of sheep bleating in the distance and the scurrying of free-range chickens and pet goats roaming in the fields opposite. This stone cottage is in the middle of it all, with views of Weatherlamb and Coniston Old Man for as far as the eye can see, and walking trails across hills and fells leading right from the doorstep into the great outdoors. The nearby market town of Ulverston is a twenty-minute drive away and offers a range of independent shops, restaurants, cafes and traditional country pubs to stop off for a well-earned drink. After a day of hiking and exploring the local villages, there's nothing better than switching on the electric fire and relaxing in the warm and inviting living space as the wind picks up outside. For the interiors, think of original timber-beamed ceilings, painted oak furniture and a rosy-red colour palette to keep things extra cosy. Natural light floods in throughout the day, thanks to the large picture windows and skylight above your head, while there's a fully-equipped kitchen ladened with all of the gadgets you need for preparing hearty home-cooked meals. End the day with a restful night's sleep in the comfort of your pewter-effect bed, ready for an early dog walk in the morning (yes, your four-legged friends are welcome too).

About The Lake District
Poets and novelists have often escaped to the Lake District for a spot of inspiration. Famously, Wordsworth pondered about daffodils and clouds during his time here. The undulating hills are tracked with drystone walls while sheep graze, and farmsteads enjoy untouched beauty for miles around. England’s biggest lake, Windermere, cuts through a valley, sleek as glass and hosts a litany of cosy-pub-filled towns and water sports venues along its shores....
