If your plans involve a large group and perhaps a special celebration, this truly unique home is out of this world. A fully restored lighthouse dating back to 1850, it's thought to be the only Italian lighthouse to offer accommodation, and along with the apartments in the former army barracks behind it, it forms a fabulous and exclusive estate. Here you'll be nestled above the rocky cliffs at the very southern tip of Sardinia, with hotel-like services and plenty of modern luxuries. The adventure begins as you approach the home down unmade roads, where a Humvee will be waiting to ferry you to your destination. Perfectly secluded and surrounded by spectacular panoramic sea views, this place is a real escape from reality. If it's Sardinia's perfect beaches that are calling to you, then you're in the right place – there are four coves to choose from within a half-hour walk (or just ask the staff to drop you at one). The main building is set over four floors, with the lantern and its glass enclosures stealing the show at the top, while the rooms below mix rustic features like the open fireplace, timber ceilings and exposed rock with chic, modern furnishings. A neutral palette keeps everything calm and sophisticated, and there are some surprising touches like the round hanging beds. Restored to include many unique objects from around the world, great care has been taken in the detail. You'll spot tables around the pool created from old Turkish carts and an Indian trunk used to store books in the tearoom. Make the most of the chef provided and keep well away from the kitchen, while you enjoy the blissful outside space. Out here you'll find plenty of peaceful spots to read on the deck, eat outdoors under the pergolas or swim in the crystal clear infinity pool. And the second building is no less impressive, with its own grand courtyard deck, bar area and raised infinity pool. A place to relax and enjoy special times with friends and family, it offers a once-in-a-lifetime experience – and did we mention the full collection of fine Italian wines and Champagne in the cellar?
