Staggeringly beautiful and truly unique, this home is out of this world. Designed to act as a guiding light to boats at sea, this fully operational lighthouse dates back to 1850 and is thought to be the only Italian lighthouse to offer accommodation. Here you'll be nestled above the rocky cliffs at the very southern tip of Sardinia, with hotel-like services and modern luxuries. The adventure begins as you approach the home down unmade roads, where a Humvee will be waiting to ferry you to your destination. Perfectly secluded and surrounded by spectacular panoramic sea views, this place has been thoughtfully converted to create the dream escape from reality. The main building is set over four floors, with the lantern and its glass enclosures stealing the show at the top, while the rooms below mix rustic features like the open fireplace, timber ceilings and exposed rock with chic, modern furnishings. A neutral palette keeps everything calm and sophisticated, and there are some surprising touches like the round hanging beds. Make the most of the chef provided and keep well away from the kitchen, while you enjoy the blissful outside space. Out here you'll find plenty of peaceful spots to read on the... deck, eat outdoors under the pergolas or swim in the crystal clear infinity pool. And if it's the beach that's calling you, there are four coves to choose from within a half-hour walk – or just ask the staff to drop you at one. Restored to include many unique objects from around the world, great care has been taken in the detail of this amazing home. You'll spot tables around the pool created from old Turkish carts and an Indian trunk used to store books in the tearoom. A place to relax and reflect, it offers a once-in-a-lifetime experience – and did we mention the full collection of fine Italian wines and Champagne in the cellar?
