Step back in time with a stay at this exquisite grade II listed cottage tucked away in the chocolate-box village of Stow-on-the-Wold. Built in the early 19th Century, while the glorious original oak beams, exposed Cotswold stone, and flagstone flooring remains, everywhere else has been lovingly reimagined into an elegant, stylish retreat. In winter months, look forward to toasty evenings curled up by the crackling inglenook fireplace with a glass of red wine and a good book. And when the sun shines, head out into the pretty, walled garden where children and furry friends alike can burn off some energy as you fire up the barbecue and enjoy a few evening aperitifs on the terrace. Inside, the made-for-action kitchen and light-filled dining space make cooking and entertaining a joy. And if you time it right, you can stock up on lots of local produce beforehand at the bustling farmers' market square (four minutes on foot). Or keep things simple and head to The Porch House (reportedly the country's oldest pub) for some upper crust grub and real ales – it's just a five-minute jaunt from your door.
