Crete’s north coast plays host to magnificent towns as well as gorgeous beaches and rugged shorelines. But while ancient history is on the cards, you might want to relax in an altogether more modern base. Between the stone fortress of Heraklion and the iconic stone jetty of Rethymnon, this villa is just a forty-five-minute drive from a fantastic day out, or fabulous days in. As you arrive via Cretan olive groves and lush landscapes, you’ll immediately be impressed by its grandeur. From the driveway, the levelled gardens lead to a private pool, shaded dining terrace, and sun loungers on the upper deck. Or follow the stone path downstairs to a secluded lawn with native shrubbery and fresh floral scents. With a rustic outdoor grill and even a kids' playground, these grounds are truly extensive. From down here, you might need to crane your neck to look up to this imposing villa. Again set over multiple floors, the modern architecture nods to Mediterranean tradition, with its terracotta roof and sun-soaked balconies. You can enjoy panoramic views of the sea from these spots – that’s if you’re not too busy in your private gym or at the pool table.
