On the shores of Lago Maggiore in the village of Maccagno, this utterly charming apartment is the perfect retreat for couples or solo travellers looking for a taste of Italian lakeside living. Terracotta floors and wooden beamed ceilings lend a rustic feel to the space, while the modern kitchen is the heart of the house, alongside a cosy living space upstairs. In the morning, don your complimentary slippers and head onto the balcony for a coffee. The apartment is a two minute walk from the shore, but the most beautiful beach can be reached in fifteen minutes on foot. There’s plenty to do on the lake, from canoeing, sailing and swimming to a range of watersports – your host is happy to assist you with bookings. You are a six minute walk from the ferry terminal where there are boats to take you across the lake. If you prefer dry land, the area around Maccagno is famously a top mountain biking spot, and there are plenty of beautiful hiking trails. Come evening, head down to one of the laidback pizzerias in town, or try your hand at cooking up an Italian dinner in the well stocked kitchen.
