Between the Bay of Kiel and the Great Belt, Langeland Island is a little slice of Denmark that's off the tourist track. Twenty-four minutes by car from its largest town of Rudkøbing (from where you can head out on an island-hopping adventure to Tåsinge and beyond) this traditional wooden home is a tranquil nest on the opposite coast. But despite rustic appearances, there are hidden luxuries within. As you approach the house, it looks like a cabin or lodge on a much grander scale. A lush lawn surrounds the exterior, with football goals placed at either end to keep you active. At half-time, settle down on the terrace and get the barbecue heated up. Your wooden decking extends outwards, with thick heather growing at the edge of the wooden planks in this organic and natural garden. When it’s time to head indoors, you’ll immediately be drawn to the old wood-burning stove at the heart of the pine living space. But forget rustic – it's time to get acquainted with those aforementioned luxuries. Walk across heated floors for an after-dinner stint in the wooden sauna, followed by a glass of fizz in the large Jacuzzi tub.
