Some homes just have that special something which makes them quite magical – and this beautiful garden apartment situated on the ground floor of a grand nineteenth-century house in the charming town of Martorell is certainly one such home. If you’re like us you’ll likely fall under the spell of this place the moment you arrive – firstly, you’ll be greeted by the imposing building itself, set against the lush greenery of its garden. Your host is here to welcome you – a personal touch which can make all the difference to a weary traveller. The apartment is full of character – while it has been meticulously renovated, it still retains all of its period elegance, and the many quaint pieces and lovely furnishings scattered throughout will make you feel right at home. There’s plenty of room inside to kick off your shoes and relax, whether on one of the comfy sofas or in the shady serenity of the garden. We love the wood beams on the ceilings and the gorgeous tiled floors – not to mention all the family treasures you’ll encounter everywhere you turn. Let yourself get creative in the bright and well-equipped kitchen and serve delicious meals... either at the large indoor dining table or outside, where you can also make use of the barbecue oven. The terrace is surrounded by beautiful plants and it features a comfy seating area, ideal for evenings of wine under the stars. Your host will also arrange complimentary tastings of Catalonian cuisine here during the summer months. Get a restful night of sleep in the plush and elegant bedrooms and awake refreshed and ready for another day of sun. While you could easily pass entire days inside this tranquil oasis, if you do decide to venture out the town of Martorell offers plenty of historical sights to visit, as well as a string of fantastic restaurants and bars. You can also explore the picturesque countryside around on bikes provided by the host. Should you fancy a day trip to Barcelona you’ll find the city a mere thirty-five-minute drive away, and you can reach the coast with its sandy beaches in under that time.

About Catalonia
Catalonia is home to the Costa Brava coastline, the Pyrenees Mountains, and the cultural jewel that is Barcelona. It’s a region rich in history and is the birthplace of Dalí, Gaudi, and the Barca football club. Soak up the culture in Barcelona and Girona before hitting the coast – the Cap de Begur coves are a must-see, as is the picture-perfect town of Cadaqués, which is known for its white...

Visit the impossible view at Tibidabo
The place doesn't even look real when you see the photos. The fantastical church of Sagrat Cor in the mountains is its greatest hit, but we recommend you take the whole day to explore the mountain.

Go see a football match at Camp Nou
The stadium of Camp Nou has been the home stadium of FC Barcelona since its completion in 1957. It's always got great energy and seeing the team play on their home turf is an absolute treat.

Take a stroll through Jardins de Bacardí
This small park is perfect for a stroll and has lots of stuff to do – from playgrounds to ping pong tables and a skating ring, its a great place to spend an afternoon.

Shop for fresh ingredients at Mercat de Lesseps
This Gracia-based market serves the freshest ingredients brought in from nearby villages. You can also have breakfast or tapas at one of its many stalls.

Bunkers del Carmel
The Carmel Bunkers are a viewpoint from which you can see the entire city of Barcelona. It's a great day trip!

Catch an original language film at Cines Verde
Brush up on your Spanish, sit back, relax and soak up some culture at this local cinema showing films in their original language (not dubbed).

Choose your dinner at La Paradetta
La Paradetta has excellent fresh seafood, which you can see for yourself as it's modelled to look like a market.

Visit an Industrial Park by Sants Estacion
Very nice park but behind Sants Estacion, with a great selection of swings and games for kids.

Try some Catalan food at Taverna El Glop
This understated restaurant might not look like much, but they have an excellent menu with great local ingredients. These guys are passionate about their dishes, and you will be too.
