You know you're onto a good thing when you find yourself a stylish apartment in Lisbon's well-heeled uptown with a gigantic outdoor terrace to boot. Carefully renovated and drenched with natural daylight thanks to the floor-to-ceiling Juliet balcony windows, it's a wonderful place to return home to. Old charm chimes beautifully with a contemporary spirit, while objets d'art from the owner’s adventures as a travel photographer bring layers of interest and style. Friends sharing will love that all three bedrooms have luxuriously decked out en-suite bathrooms. And the rooms feel surprisingly quiet, so you can bank a lie-in here (there are blackout blinds to help with that too). Just make sure you don't snooze in for too long – there's much to be explored in the wander-worthy streets surrounding this home. Set back from the hustle of Lisbon's centre, the upmarket residential area of Saldanha is a melting pot of smart boutiques, restaurants, and homes. You can hop on the metro at Picoas (four minutes on foot) to blaze a trail to the city's four corners. But if time is on your side, we suggest you soak up the city atmosphere on foot. The stunning cobbled streets of Bairro Alto... are only a thirty-five-minute walk away – or a smidge longer with pitstops for customary pastel de natas and coffees along the way.
