Thanks to the row of French doors running along one side of the living space, this apartment in central Madrid is a veritable suntrap. The design works to accentuate this natural asset, particularly the large house plants, leafy rug and golden palm light shade, which all lend a tropical feel. Although it's an apartment only intended for two, the sleek white kitchen is of a decent enough size to knock up hearty dinners and the dining area doesn't feel cramped in any way. Add in the smart grey bathroom and a comfy bedroom, and you've got an excellent base from which to enjoy the best of Madrid. Many of the city's sights lie nearby, including the Royal Palace and the Campo del Moro gardens behind, which both can be reached in five minutes on foot. It must also be said that the building in which this apartment sits is also worthy of attention, too. Built in 1915 by the architect Joaquín de la Concha Alcalde, it's a striking example of Madrilenian modernism, complete with bay windows, mouldings and decorative finishes inspired by the Art Nouveau movement

About Opera y Palacio Real

The small neighbourhood of Opera y Palacio Real sits next to the Royal Palace and its grand squares with manicured gardens. It’s also home to El Teatro Royal, the grand opera house. This part of town has an abundance of space and is far less busy than other parts of central Madrid – the calmness of the area makes it popular with families. You’ll find high-end local shops to peruse, as well as excellent restaurants, in this refined and sedate neighbourhood.
