This old stone loft dates back to the 14th century and was first used as a cannon house before being transformed into the studio of a local painter. Now, it’s a beautiful little spot for a couple or small family in the heart of medieval Molfetta. The big, airy living area retains a lot of the 14th-century features of the building’s history – the barrel-vaulted ceiling and honey-hued stonework – and still feels like an artist’s warehouse. The stone fireplace is now illuminated with glowing candles and the TV is propped up on an easel. A fully-equipped kitchen is tucked away, and the mezzanine sleeping area has a plush leather armchair and vintage radio for a quiet moment. Our favourite spot, though, has to be the little balcony with a bistro set for two overlooking the Adriatic Sea and the towers of the town walls. There’s also a shared rooftop terrace for panoramic sea views. You’re in the historic heart of Molfetta here, where a warren of twisting old streets house seafood restaurants, bars and coffee shops. You’re just 50 metres from a sand and rock beach on the crystal Adriatic too.

About Puglia

If you’re looking to slow down the pace of life for a few weeks, there are worse places than Puglia. Puglia’s also famous for its Trulli houses. The conical stone roofs of these huts are synonymous...
