Step back to medieval times and be the Lord and Lady of this enchanting castle in the ancient barony of Kilmaine in the county of Mayo. Immerse yourself in tranquility and privacy in the 16 acres of rich, walled pastureland. Take a stroll around the meadows or enjoy a glass of Irish whiskey on the patio. Or head up to the battlements – on a clear day, you can see for miles across to the Partry and the Maamturk Mountains. Inside, you’ll discover the great hall with its huge stone fireplace and beautiful 17th century oak table fit for a banquet. Follow the stairs to the top of the castle and you’ll enter the graceful Lord and Lady’s sitting room filled with antiques and tapestries. The hand-crafted trussed roof was modelled on Dunsoghly Castle and is a masterpiece. We love the bookcase here, inspect it more closely and you’ll find the ladder actually leads to a secret chamber where valuables or prisoners would have been held. This place is full of intrigue. The bedrooms are something to behold too. We adore the room with the large four poster bed ornately hung with silk embroidered drapes. We think this home is... the perfect setting for a romantic holiday, wedding, party or even a conference. Situated 3 kilometres from the village of Kilmaine, the area abounds with natural beauty with the mountains and lakes of Connemara less than an hour away, while the city of Galway is less than 20 kilometres from this abode. There’s plenty of local activities to try including fishing, golf, boat cruises on the lakes and horse riding (just speak to your host and see what they can arrange for you).

About Ireland
The population of the Republic of Ireland sits close to five million, yet in 2019, it welcomed over nine-and-a-half million tourists. Why could that be? It might be tempting to put it down to the naturally friendly disposition of the Irish (one of the most widely known Gaelic phrases, ‘céad míle fáilte’, translates as ‘a hundred thousand welcomes’), but there’s a little more to it than that. This home is managed by Oliver
This home is managed directly by a business. A member of their staff will be your point of contact before and during your stay. Nearly twenty years ago, Oliver and his friend began curating the world's most unique and rustic getaways. Driven by their own unforgettable experience at a chateau, they have grown remarkably since then. Much like Plum, they believe in hand-picked luxury that doesn't break the bank.
