This one’s for the wine aficionados, the tennis players and the hiking and biking enthusiasts. Or, those that just want a bolthole in the Tuscan countryside fit for Italian nobility. Part of a resort of traditional Tuscan homes, guests here can sample local Chianti Classicos and Brunello di Montalcino at the on-site cellar and head to the neighbouring organic farm to taste olive oil and fresh fruit and veg. There’s also a tennis court, bocce court and bike hire within the resort for those that like to keep active. Or, simply indulge in a swim in your private pool. It’s lined with sunloungers looking out over the sprawling countryside, and the pool terrace is crowned with an ancient fountain. Tables and chairs scatter the porticoed veranda and you’ll find outdoor lounges in the shade. The real surprise? A private chapel for a special celebration or perhaps just a peaceful moment’s reverence. Heading inside, it’s all gnarled wood-beam ceilings and terracotta floors. The main lounge’s grand piano can provide the evening’s entertainment and there’s an even grander oak-panelled library which is a bibliophile’s dream come true. Old coach-house-style windows flood the dining room with natural light, and the kitchen is a look...

About Val di Chiani

Situated in the southeast of Tuscany, stretching all the way from Arezzo to the province of Orvieto in Umbria, Val di Chiani is a patchwork of olive groves, grassy plains and thick forests. Ochre villages and towns fleck the landscape – Montepulciano is a particular favourite, famed for its Vino Nobile wine that pairs perfectly with a plate of Tuscan wild boar pasta.
