Once part of Greece, Syracuse has been recognised as a Sicilian city since the 1800s, but it still bears a lot of its Greek history. A beautiful example is the Ear of Dionysius, an eleven-minute drive away. This carved limestone cave was named after the Greek tyrant Dionysius I who ruled Syracuse from 432 to 367 B.C, by Italian painter Michelangelo da Caravaggio. The Greek amphitheatre is also ten-minutes away and is crested with museums detailing the city’s rich history. When you’ve had your fill of the past, look to the future by planning lunch at any one of the many cafes and restaurants studded around this home – our recommendation is anything that contains fresh seafood. Finish it off with a trip to the gelato shop before turning your sights on the beach. Cala Rossa is only a four minute walk, but you could also jump in the car for twenty minutes to go explore Minareto – one of the most beautiful beaches and in sight from Castello Maniace when you look straight across the water. Back home, enjoy the simple elegance of the space. Minimal but never uncomfortable, you can easily spend time here building puzzles as... a family or enjoying the space by yourself with a cup of coffee in one hand and a good book in the other. There’s a small desk for whenever you need to jump on a quick zoom call, but hopefully this will be more of a creative workspace where you can workshop your greek retelling novel or sketch some of the wonderful things you beheld that day.
