Vetted by our experts

Elevated high above the River Dart, this house is as beautiful as the view from its windows. Set across three floors, the open plan ground floor features a cosy living room, leading to an ornate fireplace and a dining table next to large panelled windows, so you can admire the picturesque view over breakfast. The front door leads out onto a sun-soaked deck, complete with a wooden table and a barbecue – the perfect place for long alfresco lunches and sunset drinks with panoramic vistas of the river. Each bedroom is cosy and characterful, with nautical artwork and light wooden furniture. There are plenty of activities for all ages on your doorstep. For a Devonshire classic, head to the banks...

Staying in Devon

With its vibrant cities, wild moors and picture-perfect beaches – we can see why so many poets and writers, such as Ted Hughes, Agatha Christie and Arthur Conan Doyle, have been inspired by its stunning landscapes. Chic waterside towns such as Salcombe and Dartmouth appeal to yachties, while Totnes attracts a more alternative crowd. Or head to Exeter with its cathedral and riverside bars and restaurants on the picturesque quay....

Home truths

What the photos might not tell you, but we do

  • Guests will need to climb steps here – there are a number of external steps from the road, and three further steps from the deck to the front door

  • This home is set across three levels – the main suite is on the second floor, with the two other bedrooms and family bathroom on the first floor

  • Parking is not provided here, although there is some unrestricted parking around Dartmouth and other short-term bays available for you to unload – during the off-season, the bays are not time-restricted

  • This area is very steep and access into Dartmouth involves uneven stairs – we wouldn’t suggest this area for those with limited mobility

  • Your host is happy to provide recommendations for the best restaurants, pubs and activities in the area
