This typically Croatian villa is big enough for a large family or group of friends looking for a quiet break. You’re up in the peace and quiet of Croatia’s Northern hills, yet a 16km drive sees you at the buzzing little coastal town of Senj. Here you’ll find a handful of local tavernas, an ancient fortress and a charming pebble beach. Back at your villa in the hills, you’re surrounded on all sides by trees where the soundtrack to days lounging poolside is the cheep and pip of birds. The inviting swimming pool is set in traditional Croatian stone, and there’s a covered dining area and full outdoor kitchen for rustic meals at the picnic-style tables. Unwind with a session in the covered hot tub at the end of the day. The living room is set around a stone fireplace reminiscent of an old farmhouse. But the kitchen is pure modernity in slate grey with raw wood and cream touches. There’s dining for the whole group in here too. If you’re lucky, you could bag one of the bedrooms with its own private, wrought-iron balcony overlooking the trees.

About Croatia

Byron called Dubrovnik the “Pearl of the Adriatic” and there’s no denying the beauty of Croatia’s most popular city (the location scouts for Game of Thrones certainly thought so). Within the ancient walls of Dubrovnik, sand-hued buildings with orange rooftops jut out into the azure sea. That’s not the only pearl Croatia is hiding. Split has the narrow, timeworn streets of Diocletian’s Palace to rival Dubrovnik’s old town, and sparking...
