Live the Yorkshire village dream at this cute-as-a-button, Grade II listed cottage tucked away on Whitby’s historic Salt Pan Well Steps and just a seventeen-minute walk from the beach. Inside, the décor is a tasteful mix of contemporary and period features dating back over two hundred years. A newly-fitted shaker-style kitchen has everything you need for rustling up meals (the goodies-stacked welcome hamper can help that, too), and we love the vibrant textiles adding a flash of modernity about the home. While outside, the pretty, walled garden with a terrace is the ideal spot for an alfresco breakfast in the morning sun. With a crackling fire to snuggle up beside, you may have no desire to venture out, but really you must. Mosey down to Whitby’s vibrant centre for an amble about the eclectic shops and traditional inns. Soak up the gothic splendour and tackle the 199 steps of the mighty Abbey. Head over the River Esk bound for the beach (a seventeen-minute walk) for waterfront strolls and lip-smacking fish and chips overlooking the sea. Or don your hiking boots for bracing walks along the Cinder Path – it’s all just a hop, skip, and a jump away.

About Whitby

The ruins of Whitby Abbey, set atop a windy hill overlooking the town, are just like a scene from a gothic novel. When the sun sets, ghost tours amble through the cobbled streets, revealing the town’s dramatic history. By day it’s all idyllic fishing village vibes, with a hint of Victorian holidays.
