Just when we thought we’d seen the most impressive lakeside home Windermere had to offer, this waterfront lodge saunters in and blows us all away. Perched on the edge of the lake with direct access to the shore via a shared jetty (ideal if you are planning to bring a boat), and just a short walk from postcard-pretty Ambleside, you couldn’t dream up a better setting. When the sun shines, take things outside onto the deck, surrounded by vast landscaped gardens, manicured lawns, and, of course, those out-of-this-world lake vistas. It’s a fine spot to start the day with lazy breakfasts and toast the day’s end with evening barbecues. Inside, everywhere feels light-filled and contemporary, with heaps of space for all eight of you to spill out, including four-legged friends. Take your pick from two dining areas for slap-up meals and catch-ups, and each restful bedroom is as pristine as the next, including that bunkbed room that kids will love. But the clincher here has to be that double-height living room with magnificent views of the ever-changing views of the lake – an inviting place to curl up with a cuppa, whatever the weather brings. When it’s time to stretch your legs... on dry land, the bustling town centre of Ambleside is just a mile away for afternoon tea and a mooch about the shops. And even closer, you’ll find Waterhead Pier to catch a boat to cruise on Lake Windermere or enjoy the waterside restaurants and cafes that are just a skimming stone’s throw away.

About The Lake District
Poets and novelists have often escaped to the Lake District for a spot of inspiration. Famously, Wordsworth pondered about daffodils and clouds during his time here. The undulating hills are tracked with drystone walls while sheep graze, and farmsteads enjoy untouched beauty for miles around. England’s biggest lake, Windermere, cuts through a valley, sleek as glass and hosts a litany of cosy-pub-filled towns and water sports venues along its shores....
