This quaint Lakeland cottage couldn’t get cosier if it tried. Beautifully renovated, this period cottage in the small hamlet of Clappersgate is rich in history and comfort. We love the traditional beams, wood-burning fireplace and AGA range cooker that make this home feel like a true rural retreat. Mornings here are particularly lovely. Your plush bed will be hard to get out of, but the views of Lake Windermere peeking in through the curtains will be sure to encourage you up. Sip your coffee out on the patio, listen to the bird songs and feel the warm morning sun on your face. The country-style kitchen is a pure delight to enjoy a hearty breakfast in – you’ll need some fuel for walking the local trails after all. And once you’ve returned home, boots glazed with Lake District earth, nothing will feel quite as comforting as stretching out on the sofa, feet toasting by the crackling wood burner. This area is rich in history and nature. Lake Windermere is a short drive away, where you can rent a rowing boat and contemplate the surroundings that Beatrix Potter’s novels took their inspiration from, or head to the World of Beatrix Potter to see the stories brought to life. The Ambleside Roman Fort, built in the 2nd century under Hadrian’s rule, is just a short drive away. While for cyclists, routes run all around the Langdales, with impressive views of the mountainous peaks and running rivers.

About The Lake District

Poets and novelists have often escaped to the Lake District for a spot of inspiration. Famously, Wordsworth pondered about daffodils and clouds during his time here. The undulating hills are tracked with drystone walls while sheep graze, and farmsteads enjoy untouched beauty for miles around. England’s biggest lake, Windermere, cuts through a valley, sleek as glass and hosts a litany of cosy-pub-filled towns and water sports venues along its shores....
