Just on the edge of the Lake District National Park, the majestic lakes change to shoreline scenes of the Cumbrian coast. Although less than six miles from Millom Beach, this country cottage still allows you to get easy access to destinations like Lakeside Landing on Windermere, twenty miles away. That said, with the striking views from your very own front door, you might not need to travel far for scenery. The stone walls of this converted 17th-century farmhouse welcome you to rustic English life. With its quaint enclosed garden, you might fancy cucumber sandwiches on the lush lawn, or a picnic on the bench by the dripping ivy on the walls. And of course fell views and gorgeous pastoral panoramas. Inside, plenty of original features have not only been kept, but lovingly resorted. Step inside to the cooling sensation of Lakeland slate flagstone floors, plus exposed oak beams, and a perfectly preserved inglenook with an iron log-burner. With fresh cream paint on the walls, and Scandi-style modern sofas, elements of 21st-century design bring a new lease of life to the home. And it’s a similar story upstairs, where the superbly stylish bathrooms boast a tub and rainfall shower – an even more relaxing approach to country living.

Local guide

About The Lake District

Poets and novelists have often escaped to the Lake District for a spot of inspiration. Famously, Wordsworth pondered about daffodils and clouds during his time here. The undulating hills are tracked with drystone walls while sheep graze, and farmsteads enjoy untouched beauty for miles around. England’s biggest lake, Windermere, cuts through a valley, sleek as glass and hosts a litany of cosy-pub-filled towns and water sports venues along its shores....
