Thought to date back in part to the Tudor period and in part to the Victorian era, this old mill – located in a picturesque hamlet – was converted during the 1980s and takes care to retain much of the home’s period features including the mill shaft, which is a striking centrepiece to the living space. Multiple levels, some at split levels in this home reference the mechanical workings of the mill and intersect original mill components creating a wonderfully unique space. What’s more, the home’s owners have put a lot of thought into the environmental footprint of this home by upcycling furniture, using energy-efficient appliances, using a solar PV system, and including garden plants with low watering requirements. On sunny mornings, we would love to begin our days here with breakfast at the outdoor dining table in the sun-trapped courtyard before exploring the grounds at a leisurely pace. Wander the grounds’ passages, grassy knolls – that are home to birds and rabbits – fruit trees – bearing plums, pears, apples and figs – or rest beside the old mill pond which features Lily pads and dragonflies. In the afternoon, the large lawn is an ideal spot for a game...
