Do you have a question about this home or the local area?

It's hard to believe this home is just over a ten-minute walk from the travel hub of the Gare du Nord. Down a quiet lane, in a serene courtyard full of plants, this is a little haven of peace in the bustling Canal Saint-Martin neighbourhood – just four minutes from the waterside. As this duplex apartment was refurbished by an architect, it's full of thoughtful, stylish features. We love industrial touches such as the floating metal staircase, cement tiles, and black-rimmed kitchen windows. Of course all the fixtures are also top spec, with oak flooring and granite worktops. Luxury continues with the range of French designer furniture – settle down for a glass of wine on Stark and Le Corbusier chairs, or read a magazine at the Alain Richard table. If you’re staying in, you’ve got a few entertainment options. Have a tinkle on the electric piano, or snuggle up for a movie night with the HD 3D projector and sound system. If you’re heading out, canalside street food and cocktails are a must in this hip area. Or you can head a little bit further west to reach the colourful, hilly neighbourhood of Montmartre, only 2km from home.

Home truths

Your host kindly provides breakfast as part of your welcome package

There's no hairdryer available in this home, so you might need to bring one along

At full capacity, one guest will be sleeping on a single sofa bed in the living room

The apartment is on the second floor of the building and there is no elevator – be prepared to climb some stairs on arrival

This home has two levels, and the stairs up to the mezzanine bedroom are quite narrow

As the bed is in a corner with a sloping roof, you'll need to take a little care when you're getting up in the morning

While the courtyard is gated off from the main road, it's not an outdoor space that guests can socialise in, and it's communal to all the homes in this block

About Canal Saint Martin - Oberkampf

Canal Saint Martin is to Paris what Williamsburg once was to New York or Shoreditch was to London. This part of town still retains a certain grittiness that has been largely lost from the abovementioned counterparts - gentrification is undoubtedly on its way but the area still feels authentic and edgy so get there before this changes! You'll be rubbing shoulders with Paris's hippest young things, smoking and drinking outside...
