A compact yet charming apartment, and right in the middle of Campo Marzio, Purple Grapes offers a lovely little retreat with a fantastic location. Although not really suitable for people with mobility issues due to the lack of lift, it would be great for couples or small families who want to be in the thick of the action. The large bedroom where antiques and modern furnishings meet will certainly prove dream-inducing, while the beautiful fresco on the ceiling is really the icing on the cake.

Home truths

The building has no lift, so you would have to climb two floors of stairs.

There is only one bathroom between up to four guests.

The TV is quite small, so if that is important you might want to look elsewhere.

Since the photoshoot, the marble table has been replaced by a smaller wooden table.

    The WiFi is rather slow.

The kitchen is lacking some basic cooking supplies and cooking utensils, so it might not be the best choice if you're planning family meals in.

The bedroom curtains here don't fully block out the sunlight. If you're hoping to enjoy a lie-in, you might want to pack an eye mask.

It's worth noting that the towels here aren't particularly plush, so not everyone might find them comfortable.

About Spagna

Spagna is, perhaps unsurprisingly, focussed around the eponymous Piazza di Spagna. Along with the Trevi fountain, it’s one of the most visited sights in the entire city. Things weren’t always so auspicious – in the 16th century, the area was Rome’s red light district, but today it’s better known for the vine-covered romance of Via Margutta, home to Gregory Peck's impoverished journalist in Roman Holiday. This is not the place...
