Once the home of Welsh poet Dewi Emrys – who won the coveted National Eisteddfod ‘Chair’ four times – this stone cottage in the village of Talgarreg offers all the poetry and romance you’d expect of a Welsh country getaway. Inside, the cosy living room is all exposed stonework and beams, with a wood-burning stove inviting you to curl up next to it with a mug of tea and a plate of Welsh cakes. The cheerful red-tiled kitchen beckons hearty homecooked meals around its farmhouse-style table, or better yet, enjoy your food alfresco in the garden (equipped with a barbecue) where scenic views of the surrounding fields stretch out like an emerald blanket in front of you. Upstairs, you’ll find the two comfortable bedrooms waiting to ease you into a dreamy night’s sleep, certain to leave you feeling rested and ready for another big day of exploring. Speaking of venturing out, there’s a local pub just across the road – ideal for nights when you rather not cook – and the pretty seaside town of New Quay is just under fifteen minutes away by car. Here you’ll find plenty of independent shops, restaurants and cafes, as well as the Marine... Wildlife Centre. There are also dog-friendly beaches and opportunities for boat trips during which you can spot dolphins and seals, sure to delight guests of all ages.
