At the end of a quiet lane in the bucolic Lancashire countryside, this former stables building is a modern yet cosy escape for a couple or small family. After a soundless sleep in the sumptuous beds, rustle up a hearty breakfast in the fully-equipped kitchen then feast together around the solid oak dining table. If it’s grey out, throw a couple of logs in the wood-burning stove and curl up on the sofa with a crossword puzzle. But should the sun make an appearance, pull on your hiking shoes and follow one of the nearby footpaths to the Mellor Millennium Viewpoint for far-reaching views across the landscape. Ramble through the Forest of Bowland Area of Natural Beauty, a thirty-minute drive away, or head into the market town of Clitheroe for a peep around the Castle and Museum followed by a well-deserved cup of Earl Grey in a quaint tearoom.
