Made from local stone and wood, this traditional old Tuscan villa feels like an homage to its natural surroundings. The rolling hills, tinged golden in the sunlight, that the region is famous for can be seen for miles from the terrace. You’re out in the tranquillity of the countryside, but there are options for day trips with Volterra 30 kilometres away, the pretty town of Bolgheri (and its famous wineries) 20 kilometres away and the beaches of the Etruscan Coast also 20 kilometres away. There’s plenty to keep you on the grounds of the villa – like the private swimming pool overlooking the countryside for miles. The outdoor dining area is a delight, with the long table shaded by a bamboo pergola and a traditional-style outdoor kitchen with a stone pizza oven. Inside, it’s all about Tuscan tradition too. Bedrooms in soft pastels have wooden ceilings and look like fairytale illustrations. Darkwood dressers and chandeliers add a sense of 19th-century splendour and the old brick archways are still on display, opening up the two dining rooms. We love the nods to history here – the stone sink in the kitchen, the huge hearth in the dining room and the antique chairs... and tables that feel as though they belong in a museum.
