New York, New York, it's a helluva town and if you plan to pass your visit spending every waking hour out on the streets soaking up all the culture and cuisine you can take, maybe you only need somewhere small and simple to stay – somewhere like this aparthotel on Long City Island. We won't lie, there's not much behind the front door, save for a big bed, a mini-fridge, a coffee machine and a floor-to-ceiling window that looks out to views of the skyline known the world over. However, there's some communal space in the building to compensate for this small offering, including lots of seating on the ground floor and plenty more up on the rooftop terrace that's also treated to splendid panoramas of the Big Apple. Another thing the redbrick building has riding in its favour is the excellent location on the supposed wrong side of the East River. There are two excellent galleries that lie a short distance away in the shape of MoMA PS1 and SculptureCenter, as well as some cute parks along the riverfront. And of course, Manhattan is a doddle to reach whether by car, subway or ferry.
