Proving you don’t have to be a fictional character to live in a fantasy setting – however temporarily – this subterranean home in Radstock will add a bit of magic and wonder to your holiday. Fans of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit might instantly think of this as The Shire, but you don’t have to travel to Hobbiton in New Zealand when this haven is waiting for you right on the outskirts of the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Beauty. With a restaurant and shop right on site, you’d have little reason to leave, but we do recommend a trip through Cheddar Gorge, a short drive away. With a host of hiking trails, you can also imagine yourself off on an adventure as you walk through the countryside, returning home to enjoy a couple of pastries with coffee at the breakfast bar. Wander through the round, fairy-lit door and towards the garden area, where you can enjoy meals alfresco at the picnic bench or spend nights under the starry sky in the wood-fired hot tub. Grab a bite to eat at the on-site cafe after a session in the shared gym and book yourself in for... a spa treatment as a gift to yourself. Golfers can head to The Mendip Golf Club – minutes away by car – whilst the rest of the family search the garden for fairies or get cosy under throws on the sofa reading about faraway lands.
