Nestled in one of the oldest and most charming districts of Lisbon, this Alfama apartment is perfectly placed for soaking up all of the history and culture on offer in the Portuguese capital. The small wrap-around patio is the star of the show here, offering ample seating and privacy for a romantic mini-break. Begin a sunny morning with a cup of coffee on the outdoor sofa, then head out to explore the city. Just outside, a maze of narrow cobbled streets awaits, which house some of Lisbon's most iconic buildings. Spend your days wandering around ancient cathedrals, shopping in stylish boutiques and tucking into authentic egg custard tarts (a must when you're in the area). At the end of a busy afternoon, head home to relax. If you're a bit of a whiz in the kitchen, you'll have everything you need here to whip up your favourite tapas, which are best enjoyed alfresco on the outdoor dining table. Share a bottle of wine and enjoy the greenery around you as the stars appear in the sky above.

Home truths

This home is located on the ground floor, and is laid out across one floor with no internal stairs

Parking in Lisbon can be tricky, so we recommend sticking to public transport where possible – though we think the best way to see the city is on foot. There are also public parking garages

Though there isn't a dedicated desk here, the dining table doubles up as a laptop-friendly workspace

The entrance to this home is shared with the building's other residents

The windows overlook the small walled patio – the rooms don't have tons of natural light
