Blue Velvet is a fabulous two-level apartment at the top of a historic building in the buzzy East Village/Union Square. We love the open-plan kitchen and living space, gorgeous brick walls, numerous fireplaces, including an outdoor one on the killer wrap-around roof terrace. But perhaps our favourite part about this Penthouse are the two huge terraces where you can watch the day pass by on the streets below.

Home truths

The photos are a bit outdated – the home had suffered some water damage before the photo shoot so some of the furniture and artwork was removed which makes some of the rooms feel a tad empty. The leaks have been fixed, and now the home is fully furnished

The third bedroom can either be set up as two singles (twin) or a proper king, but you should let Steven know which you'd prefer (if either) beforehand

About East Village

The East Village is considered the birthplace of punk, and while the neighbourhood has undergone plenty of change since then, the area retains its gritty charm. Loaded with dives, grungy tattoo parlours, old-school record stores, vintage shops and tonnes of cool restaurants, and bars - it sort of feels like the West Village before it became gentrified. Host

This home is managed by Steven

This home is managed directly by its owner who will be your point of contact before and during your stay. Steven has lived in Manhattan for twenty-five years, but he is originally from the Bronx. He works in music and TV, but one of his great hobbies is magic. These days, he spends much of his time in LA, so if he’s not about, Christina will be the one who checks you in and looks after you during your stay.
