Striking and modern, this villa rises up as though shipping containers are stacked on top of each other. Once the sun sets, it’s illuminated by downlights, showing off the sharp angles and crisp corners of the architecture. Walls of glass open up from the living area to the terrace where you’ll find an L-shaped swimming pool – one end shaded by the overhang of the home for a bit of respite from the Cretian sun. Loungers are scattered across the little slice of lawn for drying off naturally and the barbecue area is right next to the kitchen for the easy transport of salads and side dishes. Inside, a shining tiled floor keeps things cool underfoot and the living area is wide open and breezy. Heading up the floating staircase, bedrooms are calming spaces of cream and white, with big windows showing off the countryside views as though they’re paintings on the wall. We love the hidden seating area in the main bedroom with its glass floor suspended above the swimming pool. The location is pretty ideal too, in the coastal town of Daratsos which has four sweeps of sandy beach to choose from – Agii Apostoli, Iguana Beach, Yannis Beach and Golden Beach. Stroll to the seafront and spend the day at thatch-roofed beach bars and paddling in the crystal-clear sea.
